what fools we are to think we ever were

i was never there
and you were no where to be seen
whatever you think happened
it was all in your imagination

these photographs aren't real
doctored to mislead our memories
conjure emotions we shouldn't feel
create a false illusion

what feels like a familiar pair of eyes
is just misplaced trust in corrupt minds
what fools we are to think we ever were
more than a fleeting whim because
we never could have been

and you may recall nights
spent holding each other so tight
i too suffer similar visions
but know they're just delusions
